North East research agency Explain Market Research has launched a Health and Wellbeing Strategy, to support its team to deliver their best as the business continues to grow.
Explain recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and over that time the company has grown in numbers to a 65-strong team of industry-leading qualitative and quantitative researchers, including 45 dedicated telephone interviewers based at their in-house CATI research centre. As the business goes from strength to strength, Explain recognises the importance of ensuring that the health and wellbeing of employees is at the forefront and therefore launched a new Health and Wellbeing Strategy on Blue Monday in January.
Evidence from the World Health Organisation has strongly suggested that work can be beneficial for health, and that the workplace can have a key role in promoting the health and wellbeing of employees. The strategy that Explain has put in place provides a broad framework to help improve the health and wellbeing of employees and to promote and encourage wellbeing at work, with the overall aim of producing positive attitudes, engagement, motivation and innovative thinking.
After talking to employees and conducting internal research to understand what would be of most benefit to them, the strategy and a calendar of initiatives was developed, targeting both physical and mental health. Activities so far have included a team cycling challenge, weekly yoga sessions, monthly free fruit and a weekly running club. Information and advice are also regularly shared through face to face sessions and via Explain’s online community, such as healthy sleeping techniques and stress advice.
The team also collectively celebrate international health days such as ‘World Water Day’ and ‘National No Smoking Day’, encouraging one another to make positive changes towards a healthier lifestyle. A recent ‘eat away from your desk’ day proved a success, highlighting the benefits that a proper lunch break can have on positivity, focus and creativity.
May will mark the launch of an accredited mental health first aider and the establishment of a wider mental health first aid team, identifying triggers and guiding individuals to further support where necessary.
