Working with large companies across many sectors led Explain to facilitate several methods of stakeholder consultation with hard to reach groups. Not just staff and customers but other important stakeholders, whose opinion may influence future planning and development for the organisation. As a result a communication strategy is needed to ensure they are aware of company objectives, customer focus and investment and a research strategy to get their perceptions and opinions about that future direction.
As an example we may need to interview CEO’s, decision making executives, MP’s, council leaders, leaders of partnership organisations and media representatives; all time poor individuals and as a consequence the means of insight must be tailored to engagement in a way and at a time convenient to them.
In all cases the interview is conducted face-to-face or online, especially if stimulus material needs to be introduced. Telephone interviews are only used when there is no need to show the respondent examples and illustrations. The insight is then analysed and common trends considered.
