Inspiring the next generation of Market Researchers through university engagement

Inspiring the next generation of Market Researchers

Explain Market Research has a proven track record of recruiting up and coming market researchers through its graduate recruitment programme. Having recruited two placement students and two new graduates this year alone into its North East head office team, Explain continues to illustrate its commitment to growth through the recruitment of excellent people.

Explain has forged strong links with regional universities, engaging with Newcastle, Sunderland, Northumbria and Durham universities to support the development of students. The graduate recruitment programme at Explain is underpinned by the work the team at Explain do each year to engage with students.

It is embedded in the business culture to inspire the next generation of market researchers. They do this by providing guest lectures, seminars and attending career fairs to educate on what market research is, demonstrating the clients they work for and what graduates should expect from choosing a career in market research.

Most recently Research Manager, Sam Riley and Research Executive, Kathryn Allen were both asked to be guest lecturers at Newcastle University and Sunderland University, presenting to marketing students.

Sam tells us; “It was great to be asked to present to Postgraduate Marketing students at Newcastle University. We are proud to support our regional universities; as a business Explain has benefited from recruiting exceptional graduates that have chosen the North East as the place to start their careers. Being able to engage with students and to share my experience of perusing market research as a career was incredibly rewarding.”

Kathryn tells us, “Having worked in research for five years, I believe it’s important to share our experience of market research as a career choice. Providing examples of the work we undertake and the actionable insights we deliver for clients, enables students to understand the role of a market researcher.”

Joel Arnott, Senior Lecturer, Department of Business Management from Sunderland University tells us; "Explain’s team of market research experts have delivered a number of bespoke lectures for business and marketing students on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. These sessions have given students an excellent insight into practice and real life case studies which bring the theory to life. The lectures have provided our students with the opportunity to learn about market research in practice and gain a greater understanding of the value that Explain Market Research gives to its clients. The perspectives of professionals add great value and allow students to obtain an appreciation of the challenges of real life market research.”
